iPhones and iPads indeed have an edge when it comes to privacy options over their Android counterparts. This is also corroborated with the fact that Privacy is one of the key features promoted by Apple in their Ads and Keynotes.
From iOS 16 and iPad OS 16 onwards, Apple has integrated another such great feature called the lockdown mode that puts your device in a severely restricted mode shielding them from advanced cyberattacks, safeguarding your privacy.
How to turn lockdown mode on?
You will need to go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Lockdown Mode
Your iPhone or iPad will restart after you turn it on.
What is lockdown mode?
As Apple puts it – Lockdown Mode is an extreme, optional protection that should only be used if you believe you may be personally targeted by a highly sophisticated cyberattack. Most people are never targeted by attacks of this nature.
Simply putting, turning this option on will put your device into a very restricted mode.
You might not be able to receive messages with attachments. Your device will also not be able to connect to any external device using a lightning or USB cable. Many features in Safari or other browsers will be restricted and reduced to bare minimum. In Photos, Shared Album will be restricted.
All these restrictions are there to shield you from any Advanced and sophisticated cyber attacks.
Is it for me or James Bond?
As Apple says, most people are never targeted by attacks of this nature. But if you think that you are accessing too sensitive information prone to cyberattacks, you might want to turn this feature on. Frankly speaking, most people don’t need this feature at all.
What to care for?
You must understand that even enabling Lockdown Mode will not protect you from your own follies. If you deliberately open any unknown links or files, share sensitive informations, it might lead to your loss.
